AYURVEDA

Why we offer authentic Ayurveda

We, Narda and Luc, both personally experienced how Ayurveda treatment in India in an impressive way changed our health and well-being to the better. It was life-changing. As a consequence we would wish with all our heart that many more people could undergo such treatment. Acquiring Torres de Selma and transforming it into an eco-wellness resort made it possible to start realizing this dream. Fate brought us in touch with Guru Yogi Shivan, founder of the Indimasi Healing Village in Kerala, India. His kindness, wisdom and experience have been a valuable inspiration for the practical realization of our centre. Our team of certified and experienced practitioners from India will be happy to let also you benefit from the ancient wisdoms of their culture.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. It is a natural system of medicine and preventive healthcare. The term Ayurveda means knowledge of life and comes from the Sanskrit words ayur ‘life’ and veda ‘science or knowledge’. The method relies on the idea that disease is caused by imbalance or stress in a person’s consciousness. Therefore, Ayurveda incites certain lifestyle interventions and natural therapies to restore a balance between body, mind, spirit, and the environment.

The primary basis of Ayurvedic medicine are the concepts of universal interconnectedness, the body’s constitution (prakriti), and life forces (doshas). Ayurvedic treatment starts with a process of internal purification, followed by a special diet, herbal remedies, massage therapy, yoga, and meditation. Aim of the treatment is to aid the client/patient in eliminating impurities, reducing symptoms, increasing resistance to disease, diminishing worrying, and creating harmony in life. Herbs and other plants, including oils and common spices, are used extensively in Ayurvedic treatment.

In India, Ayurveda is considered a form of medical care, equal to conventional Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, naturopathic medicine, and homeopathic medicine. It can very well be used as a complementary therapy or in combination with standard, conventional medical care. Practitioners of Ayurveda in India undergo state-recognized, institutionalized training. All our therapists have been certified in the Indian system.

Ayurveda Treatments

Torres de Selma offers four different packages with authentic Ayurveda treatment. Durations of these programs range from 3 to 12 days. In order to give every guest our full attention during their stay, we limit the number of participants for all programs.

To get the optimal benefit, we recommend you to register for the 12 days packages. Thereafter, the 3 or 5 day programs will be good follow-up choices when the need for a refresher or maintenance treatment arises. In case you are unsure whether Ayurveda is something for you, try our relaxation weekend program. This will give you a good impression of the therapy.

Elements of the Ayurvedic treatment programs

Body Posture Correction treatment is a very powerful treatment for the physical body. The therapist will manually correct the posture due to manipulations of the skeleton. Pain due to misalignment of, for example, vertebrae, will be corrected. Pain relief can be felt immediately, flexibility gain is instant and energy can start flowing which results in a more energetic feeling of well-being. Together with the therapist, it is determined how many BPC treatments are needed to achieve the desired result.

Marma Points Therapy; We have 108 marma points and there are 27.000 channels of circulating life force, known as nadis, which flow into the physical body. The points at which Prana exits the nadis and enters the physical body are known as marma points. These points are found in tendons, muscles, joints and other tissue. When Prana can flow freely from the nadis into the marma points, there is health. When the flow is impaired, we feel tired, exhausted, stressed, low immunity, imbalances in body systems, sleeplessness…The therapist checks the marma points and when necessary will, with gentle touch, be able to open up the marma points and energy can flow freely again.

Elements of Panchakarma:

  • Abhyanga massage is a traditional Ayurvedic full body massage using specific medicinal oil.
  • Shirodhara treatment alleviates stress from the mind and body. The steady pour off warm oil along with slight massage begets calmness, facilitates relaxation and promotes tranquility.
  • Nasyam treatment is an Ayurvedic treatment aimed at purifying the head region and nasal passages, thereby eliminating headaches, migraines, and sinus-related disorders.
  • Herbal Kizhi treatment uses poultice that is densely packed with herbal ingredients and heated in warm herbal oils throughout the treatment. This therapy is used in the management of various pain related conditions affecting the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems.
  • Herbal steam bath is a simple and effective therapy to cleanse the body of toxins. A herbal steam bath (known as Bashpa Swedana) involves sweating caused by steam and done after a massage.

Dosha: The ancient health science of Ayurveda is built around the five elements of ether, air, fire, water, and earth. The unique combination of these elements come together to make up the doshas, or constitutions—vata, pitta, and kapha. Each dosha has a number of corresponding qualities that are expressed in the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of one’s being. All of us have some aspects of each dosha, but one or two doshas tend to dominate. During your stay, the therapist will work with you to identify your most prominent dosha. Balance is also the key word here. If your doshas are in balance, you will experience peace and well-being. If there is an imbalance, you can feel stress, reduced digestion, emotions that flare up and often a loss of energy. During your stay you will learn how to balance your doshas with nutrition, yoga, meditation and treatments.

Pooja is a Hindu ceremony. Indians perform Pooja as a loving offering of light, flowers, water, and food to their Gods and Goddess to grant their blessings in the course of life’s journey. At the end of your journey with us, we offer you a Pooja. This powerful ceremony ensures integration and provides blessings for the journey ahead.

Body Posture Correction and Ayurvedic Marma Therapy

The main aim of this programme is to correct problems related to posture. Examples include pain in the neck and shoulders, such as frozen shoulder, or pain in the lower back. Many people suffer from these kinds of problems due to sedentary work at a desk and behind a computer or using mobile phones. Other examples are problems in the knees, thumbs or hips.

The correction of posture aligns the body structures and therefore closer to their original positions, improving the physical function of the body and reducing pain.

The treatments are performed by a therapist who is specialised and highly experienced in this.

On a physical level, in addition to postural corrections, this 12-day programme hydrates, reduces inflammation, improves hormonal balance and relieves pain. It revitalises organs, balances the doshas and digestion, cleanses by removing toxins and relaxes muscles. It also has beneficial effects on the mind and soul.

Day 1 (a Wednesday): Arrive between 3pm and 4pm.

After reception and a short tour to get to know the Masía, you will meet with the therapist to discuss your individual treatment plan.

In most cases, five posture correction treatments will be enough to achieve the desired posture. Guests who need more of this treatment will also receive posture correction treatment on day 6 and if necessary on day 7.

On days 7-11, the focus is on Ayurvedic massages to integrate the posture corrections into the body system at a deeper level. In addition, there is a continuation of daily pooja, yoga, pranayama, elements of panchakarma, herbal therapy, meditation and, of course, the three Ayurvedic meals.

Day 12, a Sunday, includes pooja, yoga, pranayama, meditation and an Ayurvedic breakfast followed by guest departure (no later than 10 a.m.).

During this programme, there is ample time to relax and enjoy the silence of the beautiful nature around us.
